TECHNIQUES
PICSI – Hyaluron Sperm Selection
At Pedieos IVF Center in Cyprus, we offer PICSI Hyaluron Sperm Selection to identify mature, DNA-intact sperm for improved fertilisation and pregnancy results.
Selection of Mature Sperm
Only fully developed sperm capable of natural fertilisation are chosen.
Higher DNA Integrity
Improves embryo quality by selecting sperm with minimal DNA damage.
Better Outcomes for IVF Patients
Recommended for patients with previous IVF failures or recurrent miscarriages.
About the technique
In traditional ICSI, sperm are chosen mainly based on appearance. However, some morphologically normal sperm may still have DNA damage that can affect embryo quality. PICSI (Physiological ICSI) takes selection a step further by mimicking the natural fertilisation process — it identifies sperm that can bind to hyaluronan, a natural substance surrounding the egg.
This binding ability indicates sperm maturity, normal structure, and intact DNA integrity. At Pedieos IVF Center in Cyprus, this technique helps ensure that only the healthiest sperm are used for fertilisation, reducing the likelihood of chromosomal abnormalities and improving embryo development and pregnancy outcomes.

Is PICSI right for you?
Patients with previous failed IVF or ICSI cycles
Couples who have experienced recurrent miscarriages
Cases with poor embryo development or low-quality embryos
Men with high DNA fragmentation or abnormal sperm parameters
Couples wishing to optimise embryo quality and pregnancy success
How PICSI Works
Sperm Preparation
Sperm sample is processed and prepared in the laboratory.
Hyaluron Binding Test
The sperm are placed in a special dish coated with hyaluron.
Selection of Mature Sperm
Only sperm that successfully bind to hyaluronan (showing maturity and good DNA) are selected.
ICSI
Procedure
The selected sperm are injected into the eggs using the ICSI technique.
Embryo Development
Fertilised eggs are cultured, and the healthiest embryos are chosen for transfer.
